Burlington Cigar Shop License Suspended Temporarily

Burlington Cigar Shop License Suspended Temporarily

A representative for Cigars and More, located on Middlesex Turnpike, appeared before the Board of Health on July 23 to respond to an allegation of selling cigarettes to someone under the age of 21 during a compliance check.

Mr. Bhut, who was representing the business, agreed that the sale had taken place and explained that management had been away for a family event and a new employee was attending the shop when the incident occurred. That employee has been fired, says Bhut, and the $1,000 fine paid. The shop, which has been open for five years and never had another complaint, requested leniency with the prescribed penalty. The Board of Health followed the statute, though, and the shop will be closed from Sunday, July 28, through Tuesday, July 30.

The store's representative stated that the owners regret this occurred, and they promise that it will never happen again.
