Burlington Nonprofit Says Goodbye After 14 Years
Burlington Womenade Board members are ready for a new chapter after raising hundreds of thousands for local families in need.

Local nonprofit, Burlington Womenade, has made the difficult decision to close after 14 years serving Burlington and the surrounding communities.
Womenade, a de-centralized organization designed to raise money for community members in need without any overhead, has been around since 2001, with many versions appearing in the U.S. Burlington Womenade began in 2011, inspired by an event put on by a Womenade group in Bedford.
Throughout its run, Womenade put together over 75 fundraising events, raising more than $325,000 and directly assisting 267 local families. A hundred percent of proceeds have gone to supporting community members and their families who are facing adversity due to medical events and other crises. Donations from local businesses and individuals have made it possible to provide this level of support, and the Womenade Board shared appreciation for residents and businesses in their farewell post on Facebook.
The Burlington Select Board honored Womenade with a proclamation at its February 2 meeting, highlighting the organization's impact on the town.
"Womenade had an integral part in assisting Burlington as well as many communities since 2011...Their dedication to helping those in need was unstoppable," the proclamation states, going on to say, "Womenade has helped the town of Burlington in recognizing the value of acts of generosity..."
Board members expressed their appreciation of Womenade and their awe at the support the group has been able to provide for local families.
Member Nick Priest quoted Mr. Rogers, saying, "'In times of crisis, look for the helpers.' We're blessed to have so many people like yourselves in our community."
Sarah Cawley, another board member, noted, "The impact of an organization like Womenade speaks volumes about the power of women coming together for a cause."
The Select Board's proclamation ended by expressing gratitude to Burlington's Womenade for their 14 years of service and wishing them well in their future endeavors.
