Burlington Fourth of July Committee Cancels 2025 Parade
Road paving project among the barriers to holding the annual staple

Burlington's Fourth of July Parade, a staple of summer in Burlington, has been canceled.
Nick Priest, Select Board member and Chair of the Fourth of July Committee, made the official announcement this weekend. He said the decision was not arrived at lightly, but several factors came together to cause the Committee to strike the parade from this year's lineup.
Each year, Burlington residents line the streets to see groups like the Shriners, patriotic musicians and reenactors, Scouts, and many more as they entertain the crowd, toss out treats, and celebrate the nation's independence.
The repaving of route 3A, which makes up more than half of the parade's route, is a major source of uncertainty, as milling begins this evening (April 27) and it will take several weeks after milling is complete to prepare the road for paving. The state expects top course paving to start in June, but Priest says that schedule is cutting it very close and "I would hate to spend the time and resources only to have a difficult day for you, our participants; or worse for the spectators who are so committed to this event."
The town is considering holding an event on the Town Common on the day of the Fourth; stay tuned to the Buzz for more details as they become available.
