Weekly Buzz | Winn View Heights II Returns to Select Board Agenda

And, work on PFAS filters needs more time

Weekly Buzz | Winn View Heights II Returns to Select Board Agenda

Good Morning, Burlington!

Despite the fact that we’re edging into summer, this week is shaping up to be a busy one.

  • The Select Board meets tomorrow to pick up where they left off with the public hearing about the proposed Winn View Heights II “Friendly 40B” development at Mountain Road. This project has been steeped in controversy since it first appeared on the agenda, due to the location and access for the development.  The Buzz has written a lot about the proposal and the community’s response (see here), and tomorrow’s public hearing is sure to revisit many of the same concerns. The last time this was discussed, the vote to provide a letter of support was 2-1-1, meaning the letter of support was not provided. However, one Board member was absent and the proponent requested a new hearing, hoping a full Board would provide a more favorable decision.
  • The first Community Conversation with Eversource regarding the proposed substation that will be constructed near MSMS is this Wednesday at noon. This meeting will be virtual, and it will be held again in person next Wednesday at 6:00 PM. There’s no need to attend both!
  • Though DPW workers spent 20 hours working on the PFAS filters on Thursday and Friday, more work is to be done to prepare them for use. Be on the lookout for another update soon, and possibly another request for cooperation as they complete the work so we can use these big, beautiful filters!
  • Today at noon is the Solar Panel Celebration at St. Mark’s. Get your free tickets, then come out at noon for refreshments and an interfaith blessing.
